Safety Talk: WIKA health and safety commitment
At WIKA Head Office, East Jakarta, Thursday, 11 May 2006, Director of Operation II PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA) Ir. Djoko Moelyono gave his address on ?Safety Talk? among ?P2K3? (Committee of Work Health and Safety Management) that included Division Manager, GM Operation, and GM System and Business Development. He also displayed images of projects that either fulfilled or neglected health and safety standard. Besides Board of Director and GM, project leaders and managers were also present in the gathering.
Government?s regulation on ?P2K3? team establishment in company is basically based on Law No. 1 Year 1970. Nevertheless, a number of big companies have so far failed to implement the legislation.
The worse is that work safety committee does not exist in some companies. These companies argue that industrial accidents are mostly ?human error?.
WIKA is highly concerned on the implementation of work health and safety measures. Procedures on work health and safety are arranged by company, and are compulsory for accomplishing project tasks. Not only does WIKA apply the procedures to its project field workers, but also require sub-contractors and partners to comply with WIKA work health and safety standards. The reason of work health and safety implementation is essentially business, that is to ?save? excessive expenses. Take, for instance, Dupont which has succeeded in saving US$470 following the application of ?high standard? health and safety measures. In addition to safety talk, WIKA also regularly organizes safety morning, safety meeting, toolbox meeting and safety patrol in every business aspect.
The information of work health and safety procedures is consistently performed by WIKA, paving the way for the achievement of ?Indonesia?s The Most Caring Companies? for Safety Award 2005 awarded by PT DuPont Indonesia in November 2005.
