PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) reaffirmed its commitment as a strategic partner for the government in developing vital national infrastructure by signing two new contracts in the Water Resources (SDA) sector. These contracts include the Flood Control Infrastructure Development Project at the Merauke Regency Water Supply System (KSPP) (Package 2) in Merauke Regency, South Papua, with a contract value of IDR 511 billion, and the Semanan DC Reservoir Construction for the Karian-Serpong Regional Water Supply System Downstream System, Package 1, in West Jakarta, with a contract value of IDR 167 billion.
Protecting Settlements & Agricultural Productivity in South Papua
The Wanam Flood Control Project is crucial in addressing the challenges of seasonal flooding, which has hampered social activities and land productivity in Ilwayab District, Merauke Regency. Characterized by flat land and swampy areas prone to inundation, this area requires a more robust water control system to protect settlements and the swamp irrigation network that forms the backbone of the Agricultural Intensification Program in the Merauke Food Production Center.
WIKA's scope of work includes the construction of safety embankments, flood control channels, and major water structures such as dams, sluice gates, and water level control structures. All infrastructure is designed using a modern irrigation construction approach, including the use of pump systems and sluice gate installations with hydrological sensor technology to ensure accurate water discharge control according to local conditions.
Supporting Access to Safe Drinking Water for West Jakarta Residents
Furthermore, WIKA has also been entrusted with the Semanan DC Reservoir Project, which includes the construction of an 8,500 m³ reservoir, a piping network, a pump house, supporting buildings, and mechanical, electrical, and SCADA systems, with a 600-calendar-day implementation period. This infrastructure will serve as the backbone of drinking water distribution from the Semanan Water Treatment Plant (planned for 2026–2027) to two PAM JAYA service areas: the Semanan 3 Water Supply System and the North Meruya 1 Water Supply System.
The construction of this reservoir also aligns with the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) target of increasing access to safe drinking water to 43% by 2029. Currently, the national target stands at 20.49% (SKAM-RT 2023), so supporting infrastructure such as the Semanan Water Supply System is urgently needed to address the 22.51% supply gap.
WIKA's President Director, Agung Budi Waskito, emphasized that these two projects demonstrate WIKA's role in providing infrastructure that directly impacts the community. "Water resources infrastructure plays a vital role in maintaining safety, quality of life, and regional sustainability. Through this project, WIKA is committed to providing robust and sustainable construction solutions, while also strengthening our capacity to support national development in various regions of Indonesia," said Agung BW.
With these two new contracts, WIKA continues to strengthen its role as a national construction company that provides integrated solutions for flood resilience, improving basic services, and sustainable development throughout Indonesia.
