WIKA’s Housing Project in Aceh Became the Pilot Project of NGO
The success of PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA) in developing high quality housing, previously built in 259 units and increased by repeat order of British Red Cross Society (BRCS) to 1500 units, is attractive to other Non Government Organizations (NGOs).
Catholic Relief Service (CRS), a NGO whom the headquarter is located in Baltimore, America, trusted the the housing and infrastructure construction of Meulaboh and Nagan Raya-West Aceh to WIKA. In Meulaboh, WIKA had built 40 unit s of ruko (house and shop), 5 units of shop, 1 kindergarten (750 m2) and 2 floors-women dormitory (1750 m2). After completing those projects, WIKA then awarded the repeat order of 78 units of house in Cot Mue, 70 units of house in Pulo, 66 units of house in Pasi Pinang Village, 72 units of house in Rundeng and 166 units of house in Panggong. Satisfied, CRS awarded other projects to WIKA, i.e, Infrastructure project (3 km housing road) in Leuhan and 188 units of house which is still negotiating up til now.
By WIKA’s success in doing projects of BRCS and CRS, including the implementation of quality system (K3, 5R and ISO), innovation in completing high difficulties project especially in Pulo which has peat moss soil with the depth of 12 m and the result of quality housing, made the WIKA’s housing project to be the pilot project of NGO. Another NGO, Canadian Red Cross (CRC), had also trusted the construction of 650 units of house in Kahju and 900 units of house in Calang.
