The government continues to encourage increased connectivity between regions through infrastructure development to accelerate economic equality, create quality jobs and encourage entrepreneurship, as stated in Asta Cita. One of the steps to improve connectivity between regions is through the construction of the Nusantara Capital City Toll Road (IKN) Section 1B, which was completed in November 2024. This toll road will be part of the strategic toll network in Kalimantan, connecting Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Airport (SAMS) Sepinggan with the existing toll road, namely the Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road.
This strategic project with a length of 5.2km aims to improve connectivity to the core area of the IKN government center, accelerate the mobility of goods and people, and encourage economic growth in areas such as Nipah-Nipah Tourism Village in Penajam Paser Utara Regency and Muara Enggelam Tourism Village in Kutai Kartanegara. The project is also an integral part of the government's efforts to create reliable and efficient infrastructure in Indonesia's new capital city.
In addition to improving connectivity and mobility, the IKN Section 1B Toll Road Project also has a positive social impact on the surrounding community. In the early stages, this project has absorbed 307 new workers by prioritizing local community labor. In terms of the environment, the construction of this toll road also prioritizes Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects, where the construction focuses on using environmentally friendly materials.
PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) as one of the contractors trusted to be involved in the construction of this project takes proactive steps to ensure the smoothness and success of the project. These steps include active coordination, comprehensive technical studies and traffic analysis, the application of the latest construction technology such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) to ensure that the drawings and models made have coordinates that match the actual field, to the application of Lean Construction to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
“The trust given to WIKA to build the Sepinggan Toll Road further strengthens our role in national infrastructure development. This project is not only about connectivity, but also about creating positive economic and social impacts for the community, especially around the IKN area. With our experience and capabilities, WIKA is ready to support the Government to complete this project with the best standards and in an optimal time, in order to realize the great vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.” said Agung Budi Waskito (BW), President Director of WIKA.
For information, until now WIKA, the leading infrastructure construction and Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) company in Indonesia, has been trusted to work on 13 projects in IKN with a total contract value of IDR 11.2 trillion. Some important infrastructure projects supporting connectivity in IKN that the Company is currently working on include the construction of the IKN East Axis Road Phase 2 which has reached 85.4% progress which has a vital role in supporting mobility in the core area of the government center, as well as the construction of the IKN Toll Road Segment 3B-2 Kariangau - Simpang Tempadung which has reached 52.9% progress which will improve access to strategic areas in IKN and accelerate connectivity between key areas.
