Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, visited the Jragung Dam Package V project currently being undertaken by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) in Semarang Regency, Central Java, on Friday (05/09). This visit was carried out in order to monitor the acceleration of the construction of one of the strategic infrastructures in realizing food self-sufficiency, which is part of President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita. The project itself is targeted for completion in September 2026.
With a storage capacity of 90 million cubic meters, this dam is designed to irrigate more than 4,500 hectares of agricultural land, supply 1,000 liters of raw water per second, and reduce the risk of flooding in the downstream area. In addition, this dam has the potential to be developed as an energy source through a hydroelectric power plant (PLTA) and become a water tourism destination in the future.
During his visit to the Jragung Dam Project, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said that by 2027, the Jragung Dam is expected to be able to irrigate more than 4,500 hectares of agricultural land in Central Java. “My hope is that by 2027, this dam will be able to irrigate around 4,500 hectares of agricultural land, thereby increasing the Planting Index (IP) from 200% to 300% and supporting President Prabowo's main program towards food self-sufficiency,” said Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo.
WIKA has been entrusted with two important packages in this project, namely Package II and Package V. Package II, which covers the initial work on the main dam embankment, has been successfully completed and has passed the Provisional Hand Over (PHO) stage in November 2024. Currently, construction is continuing on Package V, which is the next phase of construction of the main structure. As of July 2025, the physical progress of Package V has reached 65.9%, covering the continuation of the dam embankment work, the construction of spillways, access roads, drainage systems, and various other supporting infrastructure.
WIKA President Director Agung Budi Waskito (BW) emphasized WIKA's commitment to continue delivering the best performance in this strategic project so that its benefits can be immediately felt by the community. "WIKA continues to closely monitor the progress of the Jragung Dam construction. This project is a priority for the Company to support food self-sufficiency while providing tangible benefits to the community, ranging from clean water supply, flood control, to strengthening the local economy," said Agung BW.
With its various benefits, the Jragung Dam not only supports food security but also supports the availability of clean water, flood control, energy sources, and local economic development in line with the vision of food self-sufficiency and economic growth for the people as envisioned by President Prabowo Subianto.
