The Ministry of Public Works (PU) together with PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) continue to demonstrate their commitment in responding to the flood disaster that has hit Aceh and North Sumatra. WIKA continues to move quickly to support the government in accelerating the recovery of the affected areas by deploying human resources and construction equipment.
The main focus of the response is in Aceh Tamiang, including the cleaning of various public and strategic facilities such as the Aceh Tamiang Regional General Hospital, Karang Baru 1 Public Elementary School, Darul Mukhlisin Islamic Boarding School, and the Kuala Simpang City area. These activities aim to restore basic community services so that they can return to normal operation after the disaster.
In implementing this emergency response, WIKA deployed hundreds of personnel consisting of field workers, operators, technicians, HSE personnel, and dozens of heavy equipment units such as excavators, dump trucks, wheel loaders, and operational vehicles. All activities were carried out with an emphasis on work safety and intensive coordination with the Ministry of Public Works, Danantara, BP BUMN, local governments, and other related parties.
In addition to Aceh, WIKA also handled disasters in a number of areas in North Sumatra, including the normalisation of the Deli River in Medan City and the handling and normalisation of rivers in the Sibolga, Central Tapanuli, and South Tapanuli areas, including the Hajoran, Aek Tukka, Aek Doras, Aek Sipan, and Aek Garoga rivers. These efforts are aimed at mitigating the risk of subsequent flooding and restoring the functionality of water control infrastructure.
As part of sustainable post-disaster recovery, WIKA is also conducting surveys and investigations for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in Langkat Regency, as well as conducting surveys of Temporary Housing (Huntara) and Permanent Housing (Huntap) locations in the Sumatra region in support of the Government's programme.
WIKA President Director Agung Budi Waskito (BW) stated that WIKA's involvement in disaster management is a form of corporate responsibility as a national construction SOE.
‘WIKA is committed to always supporting the Government in emergency disaster management. Through this collaboration, we hope that the recovery process can run faster, be more coordinated, and have a direct impact on the affected communities,’ said Agung BW.
Through this emergency response action, WIKA reaffirms its role as a strategic partner of the Government, not only focusing on infrastructure development but also actively contributing to humanitarian missions and national post-disaster recovery efforts.
