Vice President K.H. Ma'ruf Amin inaugurated the Cipanas Dam in Sumedang Regency, West Java Province, on Tuesday (09/07). The inauguration was marked by the turning of a miniature dam valve and the signing of a plaque by Ma'ruf Amin.
In his opening remarks, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stated that in the past 10 years, 43 dams and over 1 million hectares of irrigation networks have been constructed. The Cipanas Dam is part of the government's efforts to improve water management and maintain the country's food security.
"This dam will provide various functions to meet the needs of the community, including agricultural irrigation, raw water supply, flood control, and electricity generation," said Ma'ruf Amin.
The Cipanas Dam has a capacity of 250.81 million cubic meters of water to meet the irrigation needs of 9,273 hectares in Sumedang and Indramayu areas, and to control floods in the downstream area of North Coast Indramayu. The Cipanas Dam also serves as a mini hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 3MW.
During its construction, PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) together with PT Jaya Konstruksi (JAKON) were entrusted as the contractors for Packages I and III, with the scope of work including the Dam Body, Dam Crest, and Hydromechanical works.
WIKA's President Director, Agung Budi Waskito (BW), stated that this inauguration marks the success of WIKA KSO in completing the project using appropriate technology and work methods. The Cipanas Dam is the fourth dam project to be inaugurated in the past six months, following the Karian Dam, Ameroro Dam, and Pamukkulu Dam.
"This achievement further solidifies WIKA's capability as a trusted contractor in completing dam projects in Indonesia. The Cipanas Dam itself is the fourth dam project to be inaugurated by July 2024. We hope that the dams completed by WIKA can bring benefits to the community," said Agung BW.
