PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) contributes to waste management solutions through the construction of the Rorotan Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant facility located in North Jakarta. RDF Rorotan will later be listed as the largest RDF waste processing facility in the world based on its waste management capacity and the fastest in its construction. The Rorotan RDF plant has a waste processing capacity of up to 2,500 tons per day, which is greater than the current world's largest RDF plant in Tel Aviv, Israel with a capacity of 1,500 tons per day. This development will be Indonesia's monumental achievement in global waste management solutions.
RDF Rorotan owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's Environmental Service began to be worked on by WIKA since March 2024 and has currently reached 94.88% progress. It is planned that the Rorotan RDF will start operating in February 2025 and handle domestic waste from 16 sub-districts in DKI Jakarta. With an input capacity of 2,500 tons of waste per day, RDF Rorotan is able to produce an output of 875 tons of RDF, and reduce 30% of the volume of waste sent to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). The RDF produced can later be used as an alternative fuel or renewable energy source with coal-like characteristics to support the energy needs of industrial factories and waste power plants (PLTSa).
The background of the construction of this facility is based on the increase in Jakarta's waste volume which reaches more than 7,500 tons per day, while TPST Bantargebang is currently approaching maximum capacity with a landfill height of almost 60 meters. Therefore, Rorotan RDF is a strategic solution to support the waste reduction target of 2,750 tons per day according to the 2023-2026 Regional Development Plan (RPD).
In building RDF Rorotan, WIKA adopts leading waste processing technology from various countries, such as primary shredder, secondary shredder, dynamic screener, and wind shifter. This combination of technologies uses precise material separation to produce high-quality RDF. The challenge of soft soil 7-10 meters thick at the project site is also successfully overcome with the innovation of slab on pile foundation to ensure the stability of buildings and processing systems in the long term.
WIKA President Director Agung Budi Waskito said RDF Rorotan is not just a waste processing project, but WIKA's strategic contribution in creating a greener and more sustainable future according to the Government's Asta Cita mission. The construction of the largest and fastest RDF waste processing facility in the world also shows WIKA's strong capacity as Indonesia's best construction company in the EPC field.”
