President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated two major projects built by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) in East Java: the Ministry of Health Hospital (RS Kemenkes) Surabaya and the Djuanda Flyover in Sidoarjo on Friday (6/9). The inauguration was marked by the sounding of a siren and the signing of commemorative plaques.
RS Kemenkes Surabaya is the second hospital completed by WIKA and inaugurated by President Jokowi in 2024. During the event, President Jokowi, accompanied by First Lady Iriana, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Acting Governor of East Java Adhy Karyono, Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi, Acting Director of RS Kemenkes Surabaya Dr. Sunarto, and WIKA President Director Agung Budi Waskito, praised the hospital's luxurious interior design, comparing it to a five-star hotel.
President Jokowi also emphasized the importance of the hospital's benefits in improving high-quality healthcare services to meet international standards, preventing Indonesians from seeking treatment abroad and thus saving up to IDR 180 trillion in foreign exchange annually.
“If hospitals are like this with good service, it will prevent us from losing around IDR 180 trillion each year as many of our people go to Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, and the U.S. for medical treatment,” said President Jokowi.
The hospital's construction, undertaken by WIKA-WEGE KSO with a contract value of IDR 1.6 trillion, encompassed all aspects of the building’s structure, architectural design, and supporting infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, roads, drainage, and landscaping.
"The RS Kemenkes Surabaya is expected to provide greater comfort and access to healthcare, particularly for treating heart disease, strokes, and cancer in East Java," stated Agung BW.
Covering an area of 163,380 square meters, the hospital consists of four buildings, including a medical center as the main building and three specialized wings for treating cancer, heart disease, and stroke. It stands as the largest and first Vertical Catastrophic UPT Hospital in Indonesia.
President Jokowi Also Inaugurates Djuanda Flyover
On the same day, President Jokowi inaugurated the Djuanda Flyover along with Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Acting Governor of East Java Adhy Karyono, Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi, and WIKA’s Director of Operations 1 Hananto Aji.
Located in Sidoarjo, the Djuanda Flyover is part of an infrastructure improvement project aimed at reducing traffic congestion at the national highway intersection, Jalan Raya Waru, the access road to Juanda Airport, and the Bangah Intersection.
“We continue to build and improve infrastructure in various regions to enhance connectivity, making people's activities and mobility smoother, thus lowering logistics costs and improving efficiency. These benefits will ultimately drive regional economic growth,” said President Jokowi.
The construction of the Djuanda Flyover, completed by WIKA-Nindya Karya KSO, had a contract value of IDR 363 billion. WIKA was responsible for building the two main flyover structures connecting Sidoarjo to Juanda and from Juanda to Surabaya.
In addition to the main flyover construction, WIKA also built three frontage roads and contributed to the beautification of the bridge, as well as developing a landscaped green space in the Island Aloha area.
“WIKA will continue striving to improve infrastructure quality in various regions to promote equitable development and reduce economic disparities across Indonesia,” added Hananto Aji.
