The construction of the Jragung Dam in Semarang Regency, Central Java, continues to be accelerated in an effort to meet the community's need for clean water and agricultural irrigation support. This project, which is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN), is not only important for water security, but also holds great promise for improving the welfare of farmers and the surrounding community.
With a storage capacity of 90 million cubic meters, the dam is designed to irrigate over 4,500 hectares of agricultural land, supply raw water at a rate of 1,000 liters per second, and reduce flood risks in downstream areas. Additionally, the dam has the potential to be developed as an energy source through a hydroelectric power plant (PLTA) and as a future water tourism destination.
In its implementation, WIKA has been entrusted with two key project packages: Package II and Package V. Package II, which includes the initial earthwork for the main dam, has been successfully completed and has undergone the Provisional Hand Over (PHO) stage in November 2024. Currently, construction is continuing on Package V, which is the next phase of construction for the main structure. As of July 2025, physical progress on Package V has reached 60%, including continued work on the dam embankment, construction of spillways, access roads, drainage systems, and various other supporting infrastructure.
In addition to providing water resilience benefits, this project also creates job opportunities for local residents, with 25% of the workforce coming from the local community who are contributing to the construction process.
During his visit to the Jragung Dam Project on Monday (August 11), Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that this dam will serve as the main support for the new irrigation area currently being prepared. With the target for completing the impounding process set for July 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture is expected to begin cultivating rice fields as early as the beginning of 2026.
“We refer to this dam as premium irrigation. So, with the dam and irrigation system in place, we can expect three harvests per year,” said Dody Hanggodo.
Meanwhile, WIKA President Director Agung Budi Waskito (BW) emphasized WIKA's commitment to continuing to deliver the best performance in this strategic project so that its benefits can be felt immediately by the community. "WIKA continues to closely monitor the progress of the Jragung Dam Package V project. The construction of this dam is one of the Company's priorities in providing infrastructure that brings tangible benefits to the community, and we are committed to completing the work with the highest quality," said Agung BW.
The Jragung Dam is expected to serve as a long-term solution to address challenges related to water availability, food security, and the well-being of the community in Semarang Regency and surrounding areas.
