The Ministry of Public Works (PU), through PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk, is constructing modular temporary housing (huntara) as part of the emergency response following the landslide disaster in Tegal Regency. This project is designed to provide decent, fast-construction, and safe housing for affected communities.
The construction site is in Capar Village, based on recommendations from a geological study by the Energy and Mineral Resources Agency to ensure the safety of the housing area from potential further landslides. The project area covers approximately 47,000 m² and is designed to accommodate 456 families, or 1,824 people.
The Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, stated that the construction of the huntara is being carried out quickly to ensure that affected communities immediately have safe and comfortable housing. "The construction of the Public Works Temporary Housing (Huntara PU) usually takes about three weeks. The hope is that it will be ready for occupancy before Eid al-Fitr. It will be complete with public facilities, bathrooms, and other supporting facilities. It's more or less like the ones we built in North Sumatra and Aceh, complete with beds, cupboards, and fans," explained Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo.
The temporary housing uses the MOLI modular steel structure system, which allows for installation without heavy equipment, thus speeding up construction time while minimizing impact on the soil. Each building block has an area of 288 m² and is configured with 16 modules, accommodating 12 families (48 people). Sanitation facilities are provided at a ratio of one unit for every eight residents, consisting of a total of 228 toilets and 228 bathrooms.
The housing is divided into 11 zones (A–K) with a total of 38 building blocks. In addition to the residential units, supporting facilities such as prayer rooms and open areas are also provided to support the social needs and activities of residents during the emergency response period.
In terms of utilities, the clean water system is supplied through a water network and wells. Wastewater is treated using a biotech installation with a capacity of 5 m³ per block, while used water is channeled through drainage channels. The electricity supply for the temporary housing area is connected to the PLN grid.
To maintain land stability, contouring work in the form of steps or terracing is a crucial part of the area preparation stage. As of February 17, 2026, the project was supported by heavy equipment resources, including 7 excavators, 3 bulldozers, and 1 vibratory loader.
WIKA's President Director, Agung Budi Waskito (BW), stated that the temporary housing project is not merely a physical development, but a manifestation of the government's presence in providing dignified housing to disaster-affected communities. "This initiative aligns with the government's Asta Cita (Asta Cita) spirit, particularly in strengthening community resilience, equitable development, and protecting residents in emergency situations. WIKA is committed to providing fast, safe, and sustainable construction solutions to support the recovery of community life," said Agung BW.
These facilities are planned to be immediately utilized by affected communities while awaiting the rehabilitation and reconstruction of permanent housing.
