PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) has now entered the final stage of the Bobong Regional General Hospital construction project in Taliabu Regency, North Maluku. The project has completed the main structural work, marked by a topping off ceremony or the casting of the top structure of a building. Overall, the project is targeted for completion and ready for use in April 2026.
The ceremony was attended by the Acting Regent of Taliabu Island, La Ode Yasir, officials from the Regional Apparatus Organisation (OPD), and project management representatives. On this occasion, the Acting Regent of Taliabu Island also performed a symbolic pouring of concrete on the roof beams of the Bobong Regional General Hospital as a form of local government support for the construction of strategic health facilities in the archipelago.
"In its construction, WIKA is committed to supporting Asta Cita through the development of equitable and quality health infrastructure. Bobong Regional General Hospital is part of the effort to expand access to health services for the island community, while strengthening the foundation for improving the quality of human resources and the welfare of the local community," said Agung BW, President Director of WIKA.
For information, Bobong Regional General Hospital is being built with a scope of work that includes the construction of a three-storey main hospital building and a one-storey utility building. Bobong Regional General Hospital will have public health service facilities, including an Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Intensive and Cardiovascular Care Unit (ICVCU), radiology, cathlab, CT scan, polyclinic, haemodialysis, inpatient rooms, and operating rooms.
The hospital is designed as a Type C hospital with a total capacity of 122 beds, consisting of 71 beds built by WIKA and 51 existing beds owned by the local government. With this capacity, Bobong Regional General Hospital is expected to be able to support improvements in the quality of public health services, as part of strengthening inclusive and equitable basic services.
In its implementation, WIKA faced challenges in construction in the archipelago, ranging from limited logistical access to dependence on weather conditions. To overcome this, WIKA implemented early material planning, logistical consolidation through the nearest hub, and a flexible delivery strategy to maintain the smooth running of the project.
From a technological perspective, WIKA optimises the use of high-quality reinforced concrete that is more resistant to extreme weather and coastal corrosion, and utilises precast elements to maintain construction quality and work efficiency in the field.
In addition to improving access to healthcare services, this project also has a social and economic impact through the involvement of 29 local workers out of a total of 214 workers. The presence of Bobong Regional General Hospital is expected to reduce dependence on medical referrals outside the region, accelerate community health care, and support Asta Cita's goal of building a healthier, more resilient, and competitive Indonesia.
Through this project, WIKA reaffirms its role as a national development partner in delivering sustainable health infrastructure.
