The floods that hit a number of areas in Aceh and North Sumatra have had a major impact on people's lives. Amidst this situation, PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) is there to support the affected communities, not only through logistical assistance, but also through direct involvement in the field as a form of social care and responsibility.
Together with its subsidiaries, WIKA Gedung and WIKA Beton, in collaboration with the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), WIKA distributed Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) aid to communities affected by flooding in Aceh and North Sumatra. The aid was dispatched from Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, to ensure it could immediately reach the areas in need.
The aid distributed focused on meeting the basic needs of the community during the emergency response and initial post-disaster recovery period. This included mattresses, blankets, tents, rice, adult and baby clothing, women's supplies, religious supplies, hygiene supplies, diapers, and other baby and child supplies. This aid is expected to provide a sense of security and comfort amid conditions of great limitation.
Not only distributing aid, WIKA also directly assisted in the post-disaster recovery process in the field. In Aceh Tamiang, since the beginning of the disaster, WIKA has been cleaning up and handling a number of roads and public facilities by deploying 2 excavators, 1 wheel loader, 3 dump trucks, and 9 babytanks so that community activities can resume.
Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, WIKA helped reinforce the banks of the Deli River through gabion work as a mitigation and prevention measure against further impacts. In the Tarutung–Sibolga area, WIKA focused on reopening community access, including routes to places of worship and residential areas, as well as handling landslides that were hindering mobility. Similar measures were also taken in the Sibolga–Central Tapanuli and Sorkam–Serempah–Sibolga sections to restore transportation access and community activities.
WIKA President Director Agung Budi Waskito said that WIKA's presence in the community is part of the company's values of caring and mutual cooperation.
“Through this humanitarian collaboration, WIKA hopes to ease the burden of our brothers and sisters affected by the floods in Aceh and North Sumatra. We believe that recovery is not only about rebuilding infrastructure or simply providing food aid, but also about working together directly with the community to ease their burden,” he said.
This humanitarian action is in line with WIKA's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly poverty alleviation, fulfillment of basic needs, health, and strengthening partnerships across stakeholders.
Through this initiative, WIKA reaffirms its role as a state-owned construction company that not only builds infrastructure but also steps in when communities need it, becoming part of the process of recovery, hope, and collective revival.
