PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) continues to accelerate the construction of the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road, a National Strategic Project (PSN) expected to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth in Central Banten and South Banten. Currently, construction progress in several project sections shows significant progress.
This toll road is designed to accommodate up to 80,000 vehicles per day, with two lanes in each direction (Jakarta and Rangkasbitung). One rest area is currently operational at KM 70A on Section 1, out of four rest areas that will be opened gradually. To facilitate vehicle mobility, eight main interchanges are located: Walantaka Interchange, Cikeusal Interchange, Tunjung Teja Interchange, Rangkasbitung Interchange, Cikulur Interchange, Cileles Interchange, Bojong Interchange, and Panimbang Interchange.
Based on 2019 traffic counts, the traffic volume on arterial/non-toll roads around the toll road is recorded at around 10,000–15,000 vehicles per day. Following the operational launch of Section 1 of the toll road, the daily traffic volume of the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road now reaches 5,000-6,000 vehicles per day, with over 70% of users coming from the Greater Jakarta area. This figure is projected to continue increasing as construction of all toll sections is completed.
This toll road will reduce travel time from Greater Jakarta to the Tanjung Lesung area from 3-4 hours to around 1.5-2 hours. Thus, this infrastructure not only supports the tourism sector but also accelerates logistics distribution, lowers transportation costs, and opens up new economic opportunities in Central and South Banten.
In addition to contributing to improved connectivity, this project also provides direct economic benefits to the surrounding community. To date, the construction of the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road has employed more than 1,300 workers and involved MSMEs, project partners, with transaction values reaching IDR 1 trillion.
Section 2 of the Rangkasbitung-Cileles Toll Road is targeted for operation in 2026, while Section 3 of the Cileles-Panimbang Toll Road is targeted for completion in 2027, ensuring full connectivity from Serang to Panimbang.
"We believe that infrastructure development must have a broad impact, not only during operation, but also during construction. The involvement of MSMEs and local communities is part of WIKA's strategy to create added value," added Agung BW.
With full support from the government and all stakeholders, WIKA is optimistic that the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road can be completed on time and become a major driver of Banten's economic growth.
