PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) again shows its commitment in building sustainable multifunctional infrastructure in Indonesia, one of which is through the construction of the Semarang-Demak Section 1B toll road. Of the total length of the 27.25 km toll road, the Company is working on the 6.67 km section 1B with progress that has now reached 50% and is targeted for completion in mid-2027.
In its construction, the Semarang-Demak Section 1B toll road presents innovations and solutions in improving connectivity between major regions in Central Java, as well as protection in coastal areas from the threat of tidal flooding.
This project will not only be the first sea toll road integrated with sea embankment in Indonesia, but also a toll road that emphasizes innovation and the use of environmentally friendly materials as the main material.
WIKA implements Bamboo Mattress & Spout technology as the main construction material in building road bodies above the sea which function as abrasion barriers. In addition, this technology is also able to distribute the embankment load evenly to reduce differences in soil settlement due to variations in soil stiffness, as well as provide additional buoyancy and increase friction bearing capacity.
Not only that, this project also presents high social benefits for the surrounding community and MSMEs, especially through the empowerment of local labor and subcontractors in the surrounding area in the work of installing bamboo mattresses. So that it not only accelerates the progress of the project, but also improves the economic welfare of the community.
“The Semarang-Demak Toll Road is not just an infrastructure project, but an innovative solution in facing environmental challenges, especially tidal flooding on the north coast of Central Java. With sustainable construction technology and the involvement of local labor, WIKA is committed to presenting infrastructure supporting connectivity between regions that has a high social impact on society and the environment, “said Agung Budi Waskito (BW) President Director of WIKA.
As a leading EPCC construction company, WIKA is committed to continuing to present innovations in building useful and environmentally friendly infrastructure. The success of this project is also an important milestone for the Company in building a resilient and sustainable transportation future.
