PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (“WIKA”) continues to demonstrate its commitment to national strategic infrastructure development through the National Road Relocation (RJN) project in the Kijing Port area, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan. This project not only aims to divert the existing national road route that crosses the port area, but also encourages the acceleration of local economic growth through increased connectivity, provision of employment, and empowerment of the surrounding community.
As of early June 2025, the work progress of the RJN project has reached 59%. The scope of work includes the construction of preloading embankments and the Duri Bridge structure. In its implementation, this project also carries construction innovations, such as the use of jackdrill hammer as a supporting method for Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) piling in embankment areas with high soil bearing capacity (CBR 100%). This innovation is considered to be able to accelerate the soil compaction process and support the stability of road construction in complex terrain.
In addition, this project also has a direct impact on the people of Mempawah and its surroundings. With improved transportation access, the community is now increasingly ready to be actively involved in the economic stretch of the region driven by the presence of the Kijing Port and other strategic projects. Better access is expected to encourage local businesses, farmers, and MSMEs to compete and develop sustainably.
In the aspect of employment, WIKA empowers 44% of the local workforce from the total workers involved. The involvement of local communities is not only limited to physical work, but also through active participation in providing input and aspirations to the project team, both through formal and informal discussion forums that are carried out in a conducive manner. This encourages an increase in the competence of local communities, especially in the field of infrastructure.
“This project is proof that infrastructure development can go hand in hand with community empowerment. We are grateful that the surrounding community has become an important part of this development, both directly and in an open and constructive communication process,” said Agung Budi Waskito (BW) President Director of WIKA.
The relocation of this National Road is an important foundation in supporting the integration of the port area with land distribution channels. In addition to avoiding traffic lane conflicts within the port area, this project also guarantees long-term connectivity that is safer, more efficient, and supports regional growth.
As a strategic partner of the government, WIKA is committed to continuing to run infrastructure projects with a sustainable approach that prioritizes the socio-economic impact of local communities and the use of construction innovation. The National Road Relocation Project in Mempawah is expected to be a trigger for accelerating the development of an inclusive and competitive western Kalimantan region.
