PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA), a leading construction company in Indonesia, through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) program, has awarded educational scholarships to 161 high-achieving children from underprivileged families. The symbolic handover was conducted by WIKA's President Director, Agung Budi Waskito (BW), to student representatives in Jakarta on Monday (August 11).
This annual program was held in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day. This initiative aligns with WIKA's commitment to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which focuses on quality education for all.
The scholarship recipients come from various educational levels, including 51 elementary school students (SD), 32 junior high school students (SMP), 35 senior high school/vocational school students (SMA/SMK), and 43 university students. This reflects WIKA's role not only as an agent of national infrastructure development but also in building excellent human resources as the foundation for the sustainable future of the Indonesian nation.
Agung BW said that as a construction company that prioritizes sustainability, WIKA views education as the main foundation for national progress. "WIKA regularly implements this scholarship program every year, because we believe that the education of the younger generation is an important priority for building a better future. The company hopes this program can alleviate the burden on families in need, enabling children to continue pursuing their aspirations, achieving accomplishments, and contributing their best to the nation and state,” he said.
Through this scholarship program, WIKA demonstrates that the success of development is not only measured by the success of project construction but also by contributions to strengthening community education. WIKA believes that the best investment for the nation’s future is preparing outstanding human resources ready to compete at the global level.
