PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development through its active role as Co-Project in Charge (Co-PIC) in the State-Owned Enterprises Waste Management Collaboration Program in Likupang, North Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi.
This program, initiated by the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises since 2022, is part of a joint effort to support sustainable waste management and community empowerment in the Likupang Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) area. In its implementation, Indonesia Financial Group (IFG) was appointed as Project in Charge (PIC) and WIKA was entrusted as Co-PIC, with the support of 26 other state-owned enterprises.
The first phase of the program (2022–2023) focused on providing basic waste management facilities and environmental education, including the construction of the BUMN Community Service House in Likupang Village. This facility now functions as a vibrant and productive community space, serving as a hub for social activities, training, and local economic development.
Entering the second phase (2023–2025), WIKA plays an active role in supporting community capacity building and the implementation of a circular economy. This support is realized through the revitalization of public facilities such as gazebos on Paal Beach, the provision of integrated waste processing machines, as well as technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial training at the BUMN Community Service House.
As a national construction company oriented towards Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, WIKA ensures that every waste management initiative is carried out sustainably and provides tangible benefits to the community. This approach is in line with WIKA's commitment to the green economy and the circular economy concept, where waste is not only managed but also processed into resources that have economic added value.
This program also supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11, 12, and 13, namely Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Climate Action. In addition, this initiative is also in line with the Government's 3rd, 4th, and 6th Asta Cita, which emphasize the importance of human development, economic equality, and strengthening national entrepreneurship.
“We hope that this synergy among state-owned enterprises will serve as a concrete example of cross-sector collaboration in building a greener, cleaner, and more empowered Indonesia. WIKA will remain committed to being part of sustainable solutions for the environment and society,” concluded WIKA President Director Agung Budi Waskito (BW).
