PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) celebrated World Ozone Day with concrete steps to protect the earth by planting 220 avocado seedlings in Koranji Village, Subang Regency, West Java. This activity is a manifestation of WIKA's commitment to supporting environmental conservation based on ESG principles while reviving the economic potential of the surrounding community.
WIKA collaborated with the environmental platform LindungiHutan and the Karya Lestari Farmer Group to transform the former excavation site of the Patimban Port project into productive green space. The previously open land is now covered with new vegetation that helps prevent erosion, maintain air quality, and increase biodiversity.
Avocado trees were chosen for their high economic value and positive contribution to the climate. According to LindungiHutan data, one avocado tree can absorb up to approximately 22 kilograms of CO₂ per year, thereby helping to reduce carbon emissions. If well-maintained, the 220 trees planted can yield over one and a half tons of fruit per harvest season, providing a new income source for local farmers and absorbing 4.84 tons of CO₂ per year.
“We believe that environmental sustainability must go hand in hand with the economic sustainability of the community. By planting trees, we are planting hope, not only for the earth, but also for the future of farmers and future generations,” said Agung Budi Waskito (BW), President Director of WIKA.
This initiative supports the Asta Cita vision, which emphasizes human development, environmental conservation, and equitable development. WIKA remains committed to creating positive impacts, preserving the earth, and fostering inclusive economic growth.
