PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) together with its subsidiary PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung Tbk (WEGE) continues to strengthen its strategic role in supporting the Ministry of Public Works' post-disaster recovery program through the construction of Modular-based Temporary Housing (Huntara) in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province.
The construction of Huntara is part of the government's efforts through the Ministry of Public Works to provide decent, safe, and quickly inhabitable housing for communities affected by disasters. Using modular technology, this project enables the construction process to be carried out more quickly, efficiently, and in a standardized manner, without compromising the quality of the buildings and the comfort of the residents.
Located in Karang Baru Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang Regency, the Huntara construction comprises 7 residential blocks containing 84 housing units for each family head, or around 336 people. Each block is equipped with basic facilities, including a sanitation system, electricity network, clean water, adequate ventilation, and an environment that supports the comfort and safety of residents during their temporary stay.
By the 15th day of implementation, the construction progress showed significant achievements. The foundation and modular frame work has been completed, while light steel and roofing work, finishing, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) installations continue to be accelerated across all residential blocks. Construction activities are taking place in seven blocks (Block A to Block G), including the installation of sandwich panels, vinyl and ceramic flooring, ceiling frames, sanitary facilities, and electrical systems.
As the parent company, WIKA plays a role in ensuring that the Ministry of Public Works' HUNTARA project runs optimally, while WEGE acts as the construction contractor and provider of adaptive modular housing technology for emergency response needs. This synergy is a manifestation of the WIKA Group's commitment to providing fast, safe, comfortable, and sustainable housing infrastructure solutions.
In addition to focusing on accelerating development, the Aceh Tamiang Modular Huntara project also involves hundreds of workers, including local workers, and consistently applies occupational safety and health (OSH) standards. The presence of these temporary housing units is expected to immediately provide a sense of security for the community and support the social and economic recovery process after the disaster.
President Director of PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk, Agung Budi Waskito (BW), said that the construction of Huntara Modular was designed not only to be quickly inhabitable, but also to ensure feasibility, safety, and comfort for communities affected by disasters. “WIKA, together with WEGE and with the support of the Ministry of Public Works, is providing temporary housing built using a modular approach so that communities affected by disasters can immediately occupy decent, safe, and comfortable housing. We ensure that each unit is equipped with adequate basic facilities and supported by public facilities that support the social and religious activities of residents,” said Agung BW.
Each Huntara Modular unit is designed with dimensions of 3 x 6 meters (18 m²) and equipped with basic housing facilities, including two queen-size beds (160 x 200 cm) complete with 20 cm thick mattresses, fans, and wall exhaust fans to support optimal air circulation.
In addition to residential units, the Huntara Modular Aceh Tamiang area is also equipped with various public facilities, including shared toilets and showers, a communal kitchen, a washing and drying area, a prayer room, and a multifunctional communal area that residents can use to interact and carry out activities together.
With these facilities in place, WIKA and WEGE hope that the Huntara Modular will not only serve as temporary housing but also support the social recovery of the community and provide a dignified living environment during the post-disaster transition period.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works, WIKA, and WEGE underscores the government's commitment to supporting sustainable infrastructure development that meets community needs, even in emergency situations and disaster recovery efforts.
