PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (WIKA) has established WIKASATRIAN, its Leadership Training Center, which has recently been recognized as a conservation area for biodiversity. This recognition highlights the company’s efforts in managing green spaces as part of its environmental preservation and sustainability initiatives.
WIKASATRIAN embodies three fundamental principles rooted in Indonesia’s leadership heritage: divinity, humanity, and nature. One of the natural legacies of WIKASATRIAN is its contribution to carbon absorption.
This is supported by a study published in the International Journal of IoP Series: Earth and Environmental Science, titled “Contributions of Corporate Green Space in Conserving Plant Diversity and its Potential Usefulness: Case Study Wikasatrian Pusat Kepemimpinan.” The study, conducted by researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), showcases the green conservation efforts at WIKASATRIAN.
The research revealed that the 7-hectare WIKASATRIAN forest, located in Bogor, West Java, hosts 60 plant species from 40 families. These findings indicate moderate biodiversity levels and a high ecosystem balance index, confirming the well-preserved ecosystem with significant support for various organisms.
The plants in WIKASATRIAN offer numerous benefits, such as food sources, medicinal purposes, and raw materials. Fourteen species have medicinal properties, including Schima wallichii, known for treating chickenpox, M. sagu as a carbohydrate source, and G. gnemon (Melinjo), whose fruit and leaves are edible. Moreover, trees like P. falcataria and durian (D. zibethinus) provide materials for construction, household tools, agricultural equipment, fishing tools, pallets, crates, and more.
“WIKASATRIAN is a testament to WIKA’s contribution to environmental conservation through green space management. This effort supports ecosystem sustainability and provides direct benefits to the community and nature, absorbing 10-80 tons of CO2 per hectare annually, contributing to an annual reduction of around 140-1,120 tons of CO2 in 2023,” said WIKA’s CEO, Agung Budi Waskito.
WIKASATRIAN serves as an inspiration for industries worldwide, showcasing sustainable green management practices that contribute to environmental preservation while promoting economic sustainability through the use of eco-friendly plant-based raw materials.
