Indonesian Government through Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing inaugurated Initial impounding Ceremony of Jatigede Dam in Sumedang, Monday (31/8).
Symbolizationof initial impounding via keystrokes conducted by the Minister of Public Housing and Public Works (PU-PR) Basuki Hadimuljono and accompanied by the Governor of West Java Province, Ahmad Heryawan. Also present at this event include: Vice Regent of Sumedang Eka Setiawan, Directorate Generalof Water Resources ofPublic Housing and Public Works Ministry Mudjiadi, Deputy of Tingkok to Indonesia Ambassador Sun We De, President Director of WIKA Bintang Perbowo, Management of Sinohydro and the Consortium of Indonesian Contractors (CIC ) as well as some local community leaders.
The Jatigede project is the second largest dam in Indonesia after Jatiluhur dam which built by WIKAalongside another State-Owned Enterprises and are projected to be able to accommodate the water about 1 billion cubic meters as well as the potential to irrigate about 100,000 hectares. If previously, the rice fields located in the area around the reservoir is able to harvest once a year, then by the irrigation of Jatigede, the harvest can be increased to three times a year. The increasing frequency of the harvest will certainly have an impact on the amount of additional rice production is predicted to reach 900,000 tons per year.
Aside from being a source of irrigation, Jatigede Dam can also be used for Hydroelectric Power Plantand raw water sources. Potential electricity output reached 110 MW. Another benefit that can be optimized with the establishment of the Jatigede is catching fish farming with arrangement more closely so it does not interfere with the quality of water as materials domestic of raw water.
The Jatigede project, started in 2007. The construction itself was done by a reputable construction company from Tingkok, Sinohydro and WIKA along with three other state-owned enterprises which are members of the Consortium of Indonesian Contractors (CIC). In this project, a consortium of Indonesia has a scope of work between other: Dam Construction, TunnelDiversion, Spillway & Outlet Irrigation and Power Waterway.
